The stage begins with the deep silence of Armenteira and, shortly afterwards, the Way gently descends to the Ruta da Pedra e da Auga (Stone and Water Route). The trail follows the river, always downhill, between old mills, stone bridges, and the refreshing sound of water guiding your steps.

It is one of the most enchanting stretches of the route, although the ground can become slippery when wet. As you leave the shade of the woods, the scenery opens up to the Salnés Valley: Albariño vineyards, small villages, and fertile fields that herald the approach of the sea. The arrival in Vilanova de Arousa is accompanied by soft light and the smell of salt, preparing the spirit for the next stage, the crossing of the Traslatio.

Tip: There are few services between Meis and Ribadumia, so bring water and something to eat.

Armenteira-Vilanova de Arousa: Itinerary

A: Armenteira Monastery

The journey begins in the tranquility of Armenteira. As you leave the churchyard behind and follow the arrows, the Way takes you down into the river valley, where the water murmurs and the forest breathes in shades of green, setting the pace for your first steps.

It is at this mill that the route of the old mills begins to reveal itself. The Moíño de Bouza, well maintained and quiet, has a panel that tells the story of rural life in times gone by. It is the perfect place to listen to the river, breathe in the mountain air, and imagine the work that once moved these stones.

This segment stands out for its high-quality landscape, with footbridges, stone bridges, small waterfalls, and a group of more than thirty mills distributed along the route. The descent is gradual and follows the course of the river, offering shaded areas and several spots suitable for breaks or photo opportunities.

As you leave the shade of the woods behind, the valley opens up to reveal bright vineyards, peaceful villages, and fields that breathe Albariño. The Way passes through Meis and Ribadumia with the calm of someone in no hurry, between occasional cafés and a silence that invites you to walk slowly.

Around the bridge, there are small cafés and shops that invite you to take a short break, a moment to breathe, recharge your batteries, and calmly continue on the final kilometers to Vilanova de Arousa.

The stage ends with the rhythm of the tide, walking along beaches and gardens until Vilanova reveals itself in ancient streets and soft light over the estuary. The maritime spirit can be felt on every corner: in the Valle-Inclán House-Museum, in the smell of freshly opened seafood, in the Albariño that closes the day calmly. Before letting rest call you, check the Traslatio boat schedule, as it will take you to Padrón at dawn.
