Stage 9: Pontevedra – Caldas de Reis

- 22 km
- Rural / Forestry
- Moderate
- 130 m
The Pontevedra - Caldas de Reis stage is a pleasant journey, with no major difficulties. After leaving Ponte do Burgo, the crossing becomes simple, with no notable elevations and an excellent selection of churches and other religious monuments.
The vines surround the houses and accompany us along the route which, due to its humility, gives us the time and desire to enjoy every step. Before meeting the N-550 road again, we come to an area of waterfalls. It's a short detour that's worth the time.
Then, quickly, we're in Caldas de Reis. We are greeted by a gentle village and a town center where we feel like resting and pondering the road we have traveled so far.

Pontevedra - Caldas de Reis: Itinerary
A: Pontevedra
Pontevedra in the morning has a certain tempo. As you walk along the road that leads to the Burgos bridge, you can see many monuments of religious iconography, such as the Chapel of the Pilgrim Virgin, which occupies the center of the Plaza Peregrina.
B: Deviation to Spiritual Variant
Shortly after leaving Pontevedra, you will find the turnoff for the Spiritual Route, a route that takes pilgrims to the Monastery of Armenteira and, later, to the boat crossing over the Arousa Estuary towards Padrón.
C: San Amaro
A small rural village with all the charm typical of the Galician countryside: stone houses, green fields, and a peaceful atmosphere. It's a great place to take a break next to the church, where you'll find benches and shade to rest.
D: Detour to the Barosa Waterfalls
Just after the village of Seca, you will find the turnoff for the Barosa Waterfalls. The waterfalls form small pools surrounded by old mills, creating the perfect setting to take a break and cool your feet.
E: Chapel of Saint Lucia
Small and welcoming, this chapel dedicated to the patron saint of sight is one of the spiritual highlights of the route. Many pilgrims take the opportunity to rest and reflect in silence next to this simple temple, surrounded by greenery and serenity.
F: Caldas de Reis
Today's destination is a village known for its thermal waters, which have been used since Roman times. There's nothing like dipping your tired feet in the hot springs and feeling your body thank you for it. In addition to the thermal baths, Caldas de Reis offers a pleasant town center and several dining and accommodation options designed to welcome pilgrims.
