Stage 8: Saians - Redondela - Portuguese Camino de Santiago

The Saians - Redondela stage is the last stage before the path is unified with the Portuguese Central Way. Despite being long and strenuous, we are captivated by beautiful towns and monuments.

Vigo, even though it is the largest city in Galicia, makes us feel comfortable in this region, especially for pilgrims who miss the metropole atmosphere. However, it's not for everyone.

Leaving the port city is a return to the origins of the road, with lots of green spaces and the wonderful neighborhood of Teis, with an emotional connection straight from the heart of the mountain.

The arrival in Redondela takes place in what for many is one of the most beautiful landscapes on the route.

Saians - Redondela: Itinerary

A: Skirts

Saians is a little away from the central part of the trail, but we soon get back on track. This time we start to climb past houses far from civilization and slowly we start to hear a stream of water approaching. In this forest lost in the middle of Galicia, we are greeted by organic plants and complementary paths that are well worth a visit, if you have the time and courage.

B: 100 km to Santiago

On the way out of Sains we have one of the first signs of the day, telling us how many kilometers we have left to go until we reach Santiago de Compostela. With the right to a stool so we can stop and observe what's coming, this space may not look like much, but it represents an immense effort.

C: Pilgrims' fountain

Lost in the middle of a forest, this slender fountain seems to hold surprises for us. From here, a space in which we seem to be completely alone, the lack of sounds can be frightening. From here, however, the metropolis begins to reveal itself.

D: Vigo

The arrival in Vigo is probably one of the least interesting of the entire route. Narrow streets, lots of cars and few crosswalks, the best thing to do is to get as close to the sea as possible to avoid any further complications. From here, we get to the main city and shape our opinion. Vigo has a surprise around every corner, especially for those who like boats. However, it's easy to get lost here.

E: Teis

This neighborhood, which is part of the metropolitan area, takes us through woods until we reach Redondela, where we cross incredible views of the Ria de Vigo. Along the way we pass through the distant lands that are so characteristic of the route.
