The coastal path of the Caminho Português da Costa is a hidden treasure by the sea. Nestled against the Atlantic Ocean, this crossing is a surprise with every breath of air that accompanies you along the way. The lost fishing villages of yesteryear are today the most picturesque Portuguese landscape. With the best in hospitality and gastronomy (for those who like fish), this is an unmissable route.
The adventures don't stop there, as this is a modern variant of the Camino da Costa. Therefore, several of the stages can be shared between the two crossings. So, when you leave Porto Cathedral, the choice has to be personal. If you live by the sea, then these next stages are for you.
Enjoy.

Stage 1: Porto-Vila Chã

The first stage along the coast begins in Porto and ends in the small fishing village of Vila Chã. From the Cathedral of the undefeated city, we glide down to the banks of the River Douro and follow its blue waters, which will be the guide of choice for this journey that we are about to begin.

Stage 2: Vila Chã - Póvoa de Varzim

This is the shortest leg of the journey and for good reason. Over the next few days, the walks are going to be longer, so you need to rest your feet when you get the chance. What's more, you'll be passing through Vila do Conde, one of Portugal's most picturesque towns.

Stage 3: Póvoa de Varzim - Marinhas

On the Póvoa do Varzim - Marinhas stage, we'll head out to sea from Póvoa de Varzim and continue for most of the route. Once again, we'll have to pay close attention to the wind and the proximity to the sea, as it makes it easier to get scalded.

Stage 4: Marinhas - Viana do Castelo

The Marinhas - Viana do Castelo stage takes us away from the sea, towards the sacred mountains of the millenary route. Although not difficult, a few climbs after the Church of Santiago in Castelo de Neiva may make our twins complain a little at the end of the day, but nothing out of this world.

Stage 5: Viana do Castelo - Caminha

This is one of the longest stages of the next few days and, until you reach Vila Praia de Âncora, it's uphill all the way. On this climb we'll see small Portuguese villages with a unique charm that is irresistible to lovers of this corner of the seaside.

Stage 6: Caminha - Porto de Mougás

The Caminha - Porto Mougás stage is a breathtaking adventure from start to finish. It couldn't start more differently, as you have to take a boat to Galicia. For the more inattentive, just ask the people in the hostels or where you're staying to tell you the number or even book the boat (which takes up to 4 people).

Stage 7: Port of Mougás - Saians

The Caminha - Porto Mougás stage is a breathtaking adventure from start to finish. It couldn't start more differently, as you have to take a boat to Galicia. For the more inattentive, just ask the people in the hostels or where you're staying to tell you the number or even book the boat (which takes up to 4 people).

Stage 8: Saians - Redondela

The Saians - Redondela stage is the last stage before the path is unified with the Portuguese Central Way. Despite being long and strenuous, we are captivated by beautiful towns and monuments.

Stage 9: Redondela - Pontevedra

The Redondela - Pontevedra stage, after the great walk of the previous day, is a refreshing ride with the best that the route to Santiago has to offer. Just outside the town, there are trails that lead us through small Galician villages and forests.

Stage 10: Pontevedra - Caldas de Reis

The Pontevedra - Caldas de Reis stage is a pleasant journey, with no major difficulties. After leaving Ponte do Burgo, the crossing becomes simple, with no notable elevations and an excellent selection of churches and other religious monuments.

Stage 11: Caldas de Reis - Padrón

The Caldas de Reis - Padrón stage is, for many, one of the most beautiful of the entire Camino de Santiago de Camino de Santiago. In these final moments of the pilgrimage, it's normal to see more and more people along the routes, more accommodation and, above all, more shops on the roads that take us to the Galician capital.

Stage 12: Padrón - Santiago de Compostela

The Padrón - Santiago de Compostela stage is a return to urban trails designed with cars in mind. After the Roman city, we start to make our way through the last forest we'll come across. The rest of the route is back on the road that has accompanied us over time. THE N-550.
