The coastal path of the Caminho Português da Costa is a hidden treasure by the sea. Nestled against the Atlantic Ocean, this crossing is a surprise with every breath of air that accompanies you along the way. The lost fishing villages of yesteryear are today the most picturesque Portuguese landscape. With the best of hospitality and gastronomy (for those who like fish), this is an unmissable route.
The adventures don't stop there, as this is a modern variant of the Camino da Costa. Therefore, several of the stages can be shared between the two crossings. So, when you leave Porto Cathedral, the choice has to be personal. If you live by the sea, then these next stages are for you.
Enjoy.

Stage 1: Porto - Vila Chã

The first stage of the Portuguese central route takes us past the port and ends in the small town of Vairão. The first 15 kilometers are in urban areas, between towns and factories. However, once you reach Vila do Conde, the landscape changes. The buildings give way to houses and the roads are replaced by nature.

Stage 2: Vila Chã - Póvoa de Varzim

This is the shortest stage of the route and for good reason. Slide into Póvoa and take advantage of the night to rest and stroll around the city.

Stage 3: Póvoa de Varzim - Marinhas

On the Póvoa do Varzim - Marinhas stage, we'll be heading out to sea from Póvoa de Varzim for most of the route. Read more here!

Stage 4: Marinhas - Viana do Castelo

The Marinhas - Viana do Castelo stage is a meeting point between the spirit of the Way and its religious origins. Find out all about it here!

Stage 5: Viana do Castelo - Caminha

This is one of the longest stages and it's always uphill. We'll see small Portuguese villages for those who love this corner of the seaside.

Stage 6: Caminha - Porto de Mougás

This stage is a breathtaking adventure from start to finish. It couldn't have started in a more original way when we took a boat to Galicia.

Stage 7: Port of Mougás - Saians

We start in the small village, following a road that is not very busy until we reach a dirt track. Read more here!

Stage 8: Saians - Redondela

The Saians - Redondela stage is the last stage before the path is unified with the Portuguese Central Way. Read more details here!

Stage 9: Redondela - Pontevedra

The Redondela - Pontevedra stage, after the great walk of the previous day, is a refreshing ride with the best that the route to Santiago has to offer.

Stage 10: Pontevedra-Caldas de Reis

The Pontevedra-Caldas de Reis stage is quiet, divided between small forest paths and several villages. Take the opportunity to rest from the last few intense days and let yourself get lost in the small town.

Stage 11: Caldas de Reis-Padrón

The Caldas de Reis-Padrón stage is the shortest of the route. It runs between some stretches of road, local woods and always following the river. With a few urbanizations along the way, take the opportunity to chat with people and observe the path you've already taken at the various viewpoints on this day.

Stage 12: Padrón-Santiago de Compostela

The Padrón-Santiago de Compostela stage is made up of dirt and road. Although there are still several kilometers to walk with nature, part of the route will be along the road, so you need to be careful. The last three are in the city of Santiago de Compostela.
