What to expect on the Armenteira to Vilanova de Arousa stage
Downhill almost all the way, first through the woods by the river and then across the fields and vineyards of the Salnés.
On the Ruta da Pedra e da Auga the trail follows the river and can get slippery when it is damp. Take it slowly on the stones and boardwalks.
There are few services between Meis and Ribadumia. Stock up before you leave Armenteira.
Armenteira to Vilanova de Arousa itinerary, point by point
Six stops that shape the day, from the monastery to the Ría de Arousa.
-
Monastery of Armenteira
The day begins in the stillness of Armenteira. You leave the churchyard behind, follow the arrows and the Camino takes you into the river valley, where the water murmurs and the woods set the pace of your first steps.
-
Moíño de Bouza
This is where the route of the old mills starts to reveal itself. Well kept and quiet, it has a panel about rural life in times gone by. A stop to listen to the river and imagine the work that once turned these stones.
-
Ruta da Pedra e da Auga
One of the most beautiful stretches of the Variant, with boardwalks, stone bridges, small waterfalls and more than thirty mills along the river. The descent is gradual, with shade and several good spots for a break or a photo.
-
Val do Salnés
As you leave the woods, the valley opens up into Albariño vineyards, quiet villages and fertile fields. The Camino crosses Meis and Ribadumia unhurriedly, between occasional cafés and a silence that invites you to walk slowly.
-
Ponte Arnelas
Around the bridge there are small cafés and shops for a short break. It is time to recharge before the last kilometres to Vilanova de Arousa.
-
Arriving in Vilanova de Arousa, end of the Armenteira to Vilanova de Arousa stage
The stage ends to the rhythm of the tide, past beaches and gardens, until Vilanova reveals itself in old streets and soft light over the estuary. The seafaring spirit is on every corner: in the Valle-Inclán House Museum, in the seafood and in the Albariño that rounds off the day. Before you rest, check the time of the Traslatio boat, which takes you to Padrón in the morning.
