  1. Caminha

Before you set off, you decide: the boat to A Guarda on the Senda Litoral, or on foot to Valença on the Coastal Way. If you choose the sea, book the boat yourself with one of the crossing services, so every detail is settled. Some services pick you up and take you to the boat.

  2. A Guarda

You are now in Galicia. A Guarda is a pretty town built around its harbour, keeping its best in the streets behind the seafront. Take a few minutes to explore them before you start walking in earnest.

  3. San Atilano rest area

The first break after A Guarda: a place to sit and watch the waves crash on the rocks. Have a bite and enjoy a few quiet minutes, which become rarer from here on.

  4. Oia

One of the pilgrims’ favourite villages. The deep blue sea, the houses tucked into the hillside and the Monastery of Santa María by the water bring Greece or Italy to mind. Oia seems to live in a world of its own.

  5. Arriving in O Porto de Mougás, end of the Caminha to O Porto de Mougás stage

After Oia you walk between the main road and the sea to O Porto de Mougás. It is a small, quiet place with one albergue and one café. Don’t expect much from it, but it is one of those nights you remember.
