A symbol of departure. A sign of the way.

The pilgrim's shell - or scallop - is one of the most recognizable elements of the Camino de Santiago. Traditionally attached to the backpack, it identifies who is walking towards Santiago and connects you to all those who have walked the same route before you.

Carrying it is not compulsory, but it has a special meaning: it reminds you of your intention, marks the beginning of your journey and invites pilgrims to help each other.
